Weeks 11 and 12

There we were, 10 weeks into the season, ranked number two in the country and led by a quarterback who was the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. 10 minutes into the game we've already put up 183 yards in 19 plays and are driving for another score, and Arizona's already gassed and confused. And then, in a moment of Bad Voodoo, the whole thing went off the rails.

Meantime, the NFL plays on...

Week 10

The last two weeks has seen a big sorting of people atop the standings, and, alas, I'm one of those who got sorted. Mary Alexander, Eric Barbosa and my dad Jim are several games ahead of the nearest competition.

What news? The Raiders lost again, but did so in an insanely unexpected way by getting beaten deep by, well, by Rex Grossman. Honestly, you can't blame the Raiders secondary for letting guys go--what are the chances he's going to hit that ex-Fresno State wide receiver? Duck fans like myself are in the unfamiliar, and frankly uncomfortable, position of seeing our humble college football team adopted as media darlings. On Monday Night Football I saw Steve Young this close to tears as he beheld the awful wreck of the 49ers football program, pantsed and swirlied by the fairly mediocre Seahawks on national television.

Anyways:

Week 9

It's a logjam atop the standings, with Mary Alexander now moving ahead of Jim Peck, who, one week earlier, moved ahead of me. There are 14 people within six games of the lead.

Also, let's be honest, this week was a prognostication bloodbath: the only game we all basically got right was the New Orleans game, and we all basically got wrong Detroit, Green Bay, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Washington. It's true that sometimes I pick wrong; it's also true that sometimes I pick right, and the outcomes are wrong.
